Baked Pasta

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Somehow in a cloudy and cold days I often crave for comfort food like pasta…today I found some green peas and corns in my freezer, also leftover cheddar cheese in the fridge…so I decided to use them and make a baked pasta…not too fatty but definitely high in carbs =P

First thing first, you need to do the following to make this recipe:

1. Preheat oven to 350F

2. Boil water and add pasta, add olive oil so that the pasta is not sticky when they are done…then, set aside

3. Sautee garlic and onion, then set aside

6. Put the pasta in the oven, cover the bowl with aluminium oil so that the pasta does not burnt on the top…after 10-15 minutes take out the cover and wait until another 10-15 minutes…

You might notice that I didn’t give measurement on the instruction above…hehehe…the reason is because I never use any measurement when I cook…I just add the ingredients/spices and taste it, and add more if needed…

This recipe is actually just one that I made up, I never made it before….I like my food to be simple and I usually just look at my fridge and decide what I would cook based on what’s there…… =)

Attitude

I read an interesting article from my favorite blog this morning, check it out:

…Smart business types won’t hire people who are rude to waiters and their brethren. As one CEO put it, “Watch out for people who have a situational value system, who can turn the charm on and off depending on the status of the person they are interacting with, Be especially wary of those who are rude to people perceived to be in subordinate roles.”…

I have the same opinion; I believe that the true character of a person can be seen through the interaction with others who are less fortunate than him/her. Do you agree/disagree?

Fried Tofu in Sweet Soy Sauce and Chilli

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Those of us who are Indonesian know what it is..it’s a typical food in every household in Surabaya (East Java), we called it "Sambel Goreng Tahu"

3

Very simple food to prepare and yet delish when eaten with warm jasmine rice…

I cook once a day for our family’s dinner and usually eat the leftover for lunch the next day =)

First, we fry the cubed tofu and set aside. (Cubed potatoes can be used as substitute)

2

Boil some eggs as desired and set aside

Slice garlic, scallion (bw. merah), red chilli (lbk besar), and ginger. Heat oil in separate pan and add these ingredients along with shrimp paste (terasi).

1

When the color of the scallion is transluscent, add the sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) and water. Then add the fried tofu and eggs. It’s important that the tofu absorp the water to make it soft, so if necessary, add more water.

Add salt and sugar. Taste it, add additional kecap if needed and…

Voila,…it’s my bobo’s lunch for tomorrow =D

How it all began

This is it! I have finally finished the MBA program last month and now I’m just staying at home studying for the CPA exam before I start working in October…

Sounds like fun isn’t it? Well, for the first few weeks after my graduation I really enjoy the fact that I don’t have to commute. I usually carpool with my bobo early in the morning and went home late at night after my 10 pm classes. But now, it hits me that staying at home is not fun, I miss my partner in crime buddy and my fellow BAP friends… =P

I decided to set up another foodblog here after months a year abandoning my previous foodblog…At that time I didn’t realize that maintaining a food blog requires so  much time…it’s like having another part time job…hehehe…

Now that I have free time to indulge in my love of food and cooking, I’m so excited to share my thoughts and experiments with food with you….

I’m passionate about food, and I’m also passionate about cooking. I take great pleasure in shopping for food, cooking for my family (especially my bobo –> "the picky eater"…hehehe..), and also arranging dinner parties for our friends (which doesn’t happen very often as we live far away in the valley..hehe..)

I have a great deal of curiosity when it comes to all things food related. Crack addicts think about cracks all the time, as with me, I think about food all the time…(I know it’s bad comparison…but it’s true…hehehe =)

I love trying new recipes and being exposed to mixtures of cuisines of other countries. I read foodblogs and recipes like other people read novels…and my bobo said that I’m an "internet addict"…hehehe…

In this blog, I will invite you to join me on my culinary journey and I hope you’ll enjoy my food as much as I do =)

Feel free to post any comments in the comments section and Happy Reading!
